Media

A media item is a reusable piece of content with a type of its own — it has fields, a name, permissions and a place in listings, exactly like any other record.

Media types

Type Holds Notes
Image A picture Rendered through image styles
Document A file Datasheets, certificates, manuals
Video A file or an embedded URL Local or hosted
Audio A sound file
3D model A model file Rotatable in the browser
Chart A data series and a configuration Live, not a screenshot
Map Points, areas and a base layer Fed by a listing

Types are described, not built in — see Media types for adding one of your own.

Image styles

An image style is a named recipe — a size, a crop, a focus. A field renders through a style, not at whatever size the photographer supplied.

Back office → Media → Image styles.

Change the recipe, not the pictures

Because a style is a recipe, changing it re-renders everywhere it is used. This is the whole point: you never re-upload a catalogue because a card grid got wider.

Where images actually live

Everything sits in one file tree, per organization, with quotas and access rules. See Files.

Charts

A chart reads real data and renders it live. Line, bar, area, pie, scatter — configured in the back office, placed on a page like any other media item.

Because it is live, a chart on a public page shows what the system holds now. Consider what that means before publishing one: a chart is a listing that does not look like a listing, and the same "should a visitor see this?" question applies.

Maps

Points from your records — branches, installations, service partners — rendered on a base layer, with the same filtering a listing has.

What a click on a picture does

Every image field placement (Manage display) says what a click does:

  • A single picture opens the lightbox, or does nothing — the choice for a maker's logo or a mark, which is not a photograph anyone wants enlarged.
  • A gallery opens the lightbox over the whole set, or shows the thumbnail in the main picture: name the image field whose place it takes and, optionally, the image style it is shown in. The main picture then opens the lightbox over the gallery, starting at the one shown.
  • Thumbnails sit in a grid, or in one row with arrows that scrolls sideways — the default under a main picture, so ten photographs never wrap into three rows. Choose how many are visible at once (2–12).

Saving a display keeps every setting its form does not show; nothing set elsewhere (by the assistant, for instance) is lost by pressing Save.

3D models

A model file renders in the browser and can be rotated. For machine documentation it replaces a page of photographs taken from angles nobody needed. A model inside a tab starts when the tab is opened — the engine is not downloaded for a tab nobody opens — and follows every change of its box's size; the full-screen button sits in its toolbar.

Styles for the public site

The public channel has a set of prepared presentations for media — galleries, sliders, grids, comparisons. They are configured, not coded, and can be seen together on the styles page of a site.
