Projects

A project is a piece of work with a customer, a budget and an end. Tasks break it down; timesheets record what was actually spent.

Tasks

A task has an owner, a state, a due date and an estimate. States are yours to define, and the board view shows them as columns.

Tasks can nest, so a phase and its steps are one structure rather than a naming convention.

Timesheets

Time is recorded against a task, by a person, on a date. That gives three things worth having:

  • what a project actually cost, against its budget
  • what to invoice, when the work is billed by time
  • where the week went, per person

Record time against tasks, not projects

It costs the same effort and it answers a different question. "The project ran over" is a fact; "the commissioning phase ran over on every job this year" is something you can act on.

Billing

Time and materials can be turned into an invoice: the platform gathers what is billable and unbilled, and you approve what goes on it.

Views

Projects, tasks and timesheets are content, so every listing display applies — a board for the team, a calendar for deadlines, a table for the report, a feed for whoever wants one.
